Welcome to Pink Door Nonprofit
Organization (Pink Door) . . . “Opening a Door to A
Whole New Way of Life!” As President and Founder
of Pink Door (a nationally classified 501 c 3 nonprofit organization),
I would like to welcome all women in remission from cancer
to a new beginning. Pink Door offers all single, divorced,
or widowed women cancer survivors the ability to start a new
career path . . . a whole new life!
Pink Door's back-bone and creation all began with my mother
and best friend, Gayl Ann Gronauer Cole. In July of 1999,
my mother was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer while
under-going her annual OBGYN check-up. She was then scheduled
immediately for chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Aside
from her health, her primary focus remained on her income
and how she could “afford” to recover from breast
cancer after pulling through a difficult divorce previous
to her diagnosis. Fortunately, her treatment was a success!
Though she was left with quite a few medical bills, her continued
perseverance and commitment to finding a career path landed
her in the role of a successful antique dealer - well-known
throughout her community.
Four years later in November 2003, I moved home to Texas from
Los Angeles in hopes of spending more time with family and
friends. While in remission from breast cancer, my mother
was succeeding on her new career path. However, she longed
to find a more stable career with better health benefits and
more salary now that the antique market was slowly coming
to a halt. After placing together her resume and pursuing
many interviews, she realized that she had little experience
outside of the antique market. She decided to continue her
education towards a degree and take classes in order to get
herself into another field. A month later, she was unfortunately
diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer; a metastasis from her
former breast cancer in 1999 – a terminal condition.
Weeks past by, and she could no longer walk while spending
months in a wheel chair. Doctors encouraged her to pursue
additional radiation treatments in order to shrink the tumors
on her spinal cord to relieve pain and help her walk again.
Fortunately, there was success, but the therapy did not change
the final outcome on her health.
On August 25, 2005, my mother passed at the Houston Hospice.
Many of Houston Hospice’s nurses and doctors did an
incredible job helping us through the events pre/post her
passing. However, one final thought crossed my mind that day
. . . how proud I was of her accomplishments and hard work
throughout her life, yet how much easier would it have been
for her to meet recruiters, build her resume, or finish her
degree without having to spend the initial funds to make it
all happen?
From that moment, I realized it’s time to make a difference in women’s lives that are single, divorced, or widowed that have had cancer and must support themselves. Pink Door was then created embracing this concept, and giving women a new beginning. Like my mother, women should not have to focus on “affording recovery.” Instead, Pink Door now provides a way for single, divorced, or widowed women cancer survivors to “open a door to a whole new life" by offering a variety of services to benefit women in their lives after cancer. By donating to our cause, you are not only donating to a charity, you are donating to an organization that will change these women's lives for a lifetime!
Best Regards,
Cortney A. Cole

Ms. Debbie Flunker - Director of Hospital & Survivor Relations
After growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Debbie Flunker attended Missouri State University and obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing. Debbie began her career in the real estate/mortgage industry, and has continued with over 20 years experience. After relocating to Houston, Texas, Debbie continued her successful career in the mortgage industry as a single mother of two children. In 2007, Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a single mom, raising two children, and undergoing cancer treatment while at the same time maintaining her career, Debbie has experienced the struggles first-hand that many single, divorced, or widowed women survivors go through every day. After finishing her cancer treatment, Debbie wanted to give back to the community and help other single, divorced, or widowed women cancer survivors. She then made the decision to come on board with Pink Door Nonprofit Organization’s Board of Directors as Director of Hospital and Survivor Relations.
